What's happening at Du Bois Design?
Last year I was asked by Fisher and Paykel appliances to design a stand for Designex, a trade only show at ASB showground’s in Greenlane. This show is aimed at showcasing product to architects, builders and designers. It was proven to be a great success and received many compliments from all who attended the show.
The materials used in this display are a combination of natural products like heavy stone and oiled timber cabinetry mixed with industrial elements like the highly polished stainless steel and glass.
After Designex was over I was asked to adapt this design so it would work as a permanent display at The Home Ideas Centre in Auckland. As the allocated space was very different in size from what we had at Designex the design needed to change to work for this very long and narrow space. With the addition of some funky wallpapers and an extra dedicated laundry space the layout has been transformed but the overall effect remains the same.
I am very proud to announce the completion of one of my most-recent projects - a classically-inspired kitchen with a difference...
Two Spaces In One
One of the key challenges I faced on this kitchen project was the lack of space available for a separate laundry within my client’s home. We needed to find a solution that would allow the laundry equipment to be integrated into the design without compromising the usability, functionality and layout of the available kitchen space. To overcome this we combined a strong unifying theme across the design – blurring the line between kitchen and laundry – with some clever concealment of appliances. We used the same style of granite bench tops for all the work surfaces, in combination with some beautiful matching hand-made cabinetry. This ensured the entire space worked as one, giving a singular cohesive look.
The end result is the client has gained a significantly larger usable kitchen work space – unless you lived there it is unlikely you would even realise the laundry was there...
I was recently approached by one of my bathroom suppliers - Plumb line - to provide them with some exclusive design concepts for their brand new 'Evoque' showroom in Newmarket, Auckland.
As can be seen from the photos below, the showroom is now finished and ready for visitors! A BIG thank you to everyone involved who worked so hard to make this happen :-)
Have just returned from a sensational whirlwind design trip across Europe, visiting Germany, Austria and Italy.
First stop was to a series of exclusive invite-only supplier tours to observe their stunning workmanship and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes. This was then followed by the international ‘Eurocucina’ trade show held in fashionable Milan.
Needless to say – I am now buzzing with fresh new ideas I can’t wait to add to my upcoming designs!
